1) What do you mean by co-ordination ?                        (2007)

Ans. Co-ordination is the process of synchronising activities of various persons in  the organisation in order to achieve goals. Coordination is an orderly arrangement of group efforts to provide unity of action in the pursuit of common goals .

2) Mention two important functions of top level management ?     (2007)

Ans. Two important functions of top level management are enumerated as follows :

(a) Determining the objectives or goals of the enterprise.
(b) Framing policies and making plans to achieve the objectives laid.
                      

3) What do you understand by management as a discipline ?        (2007)

Ans. Management as a discipline refers to the principles and practices of management as a subject of study. It refers to the systematised body of knowledge and a separate field of study. It involves marketing management,financial management etc.

4) Define management.         (2007)
Ans. According to Henry Fayol, management is defined as " To manage is to forecast and plan, to organise , to command , to co-ordinate , and to control.
      
                                     In the words of Harold Koontz , "Management is the art of getting things done through and with the help of people in formally organised groups ."


5) Is management a profession ? Comment.           (2008)

Ans. Yes, management is considered as a profession because :
(a) it requires special knowledge.
(b) it requires formal education and training.
(c) has a specific code of conduct.
(d) it requires formal training methods, etc.
                    Since all the above stated features of management are also features of profession, so we can conclude that management is a profession .

6) Why is management regarded as a science ?          (2009)

Ans. Management is regarded as a science since the features of science also adher to the features of management such as :
(a) Systematised body of knowledge 
(b) Continuous observation
(c) Universal application
(d) Cause and Effect Relationship
(e) Predictions.
                      Thus , we can conclude that management can be regarded as a science.

7) What is meant by level of management ?        (2010)

Ans. Level of management refers to a line of demarcation between various managerial positions in an organisation. On the basis of authority and responsibility , we can identify three levels of management :
(a) Top level management
(b) Middle level management
(c) Lower level or operating management
                                 

8) Mr. Hazarika has retired as the Managing Director of a manufacturing company. At what level of management was he working ? Write two basic functions at that level .    (2012)

Ans.He was working at top level management.

9) Discuss three fundamental features of management .   (2013)

Ans. Three fundamental features of management are enumerated as follows :

(a) Universality : Management is applicable in all types of organisations. The basic principles of management are of universal application and can be applied in all organisations whether they are business , social , religious , cultural , sports , educational , politics etc .

(b) Management as a science : please refer to Q No. 6

(c) Management as a profession : please refer to Q No. 5
